Question:

How can i keep humidity up on newspaper(bal python)-possible scale rot?

i want the humidity around 60-65 on the newspaper and i think it might be getting the early signs of scale rot..what do i do...how can i prevent from getting anyworse if it is scale rot?

  1. If it's showing signs of scale rot, then raising the humidity is a bad idea.

    Scale rot is a skin infection, it can be either fungal or bacterial. It is usually caused by not cleaning the f***s from the enclosure, or too much moisture (usually moist substrate).

    For scale rot: Keep him on paper towels or newspaper and remove everything from enclosure. A small water dish should be provided but soaking should not be permitted until the scale rot clears up.

    Wash the snake and dry it well. Apply Poly-sporin (a topical triple anti-biotic) to the affected area (usually the belly). Repeat treatment daily until infected area clears up. If Poly-sporin is not available, Neo-sporin would be the 2nd choice.

    This treatment is only suggested for mild cases of scale rot.  In progressed stages, your snake should see a vet.


  2. if you think it has scale rot take it to the vet.
