  1. Gosh... I'm "old."  I've had 17 years of formal schooling and I still don't know everything I need to know...

So... you have met your learning goals for this year...

I agree with the post above that says "move ahead."

A slight twist on this: What are you really really interested in? Propose spending some / more time on a cool project that still fits within your learning goals.  Get creative. Enter a scholastic contest perhaps.

Instead of "Hey, can I be done learning for the year?" How about: "Hey, can I enter this essay contest and possibly win a little scholarship money?"

The projects you might propose are limited only by your own imagination.

Want something cool and meaningful to do? Look into the Congressional Awards program for youth.

If you were to declare "school is done" for the year, what would you spend your time doing?

  2. just leave your comp on the page LOL. print it out n leave it somewhere. i dunno dude, im with you, but id make sure that i did all my revision because you only get this education once you know (im 16 xD) but yeah. good luck

  3. If you are homeschooled then your parents are the ones who run your "school", even if the law doesn't require it, your mom can make you homeschool 176 days if she wants to.  In fact if she decides to she can make you homeschool 365 days a year.  If you think you already know everything you need to know, why not get ahead?  Instead of arguing, why not get challenging material and learn more than the average kid your age?

Anyway your mom is right.  Here is a link to the Illinois homeschooling law, which clearly states 176 days a year:

    http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp?St...

Well, it does say not mandated, but recommended.  I'm with your mom, its not too much to ask.

  4. you keep your mom in happy. you do all her works. she is  like a child. so you keep it as your mom like child.

  5. Mom is in charge. Forget what the state says. If she wants you to go to school all year, then you will. 176 days it not too many. KY kids are required to have 185 days. Just don't stress. Summer is almost here.

Hug your mom and don't fight. she wants a vacation as much as you do.

  6. Well, seeing as your mom has to deal with anyone that might show up at your doorstep because a random neighbor thinks she's wrong for homeschooling you, 176 days isn't too much to ask :)

If you think about it, 176 is pretty easy - we hit that without even trying.  One thing that you might want to bring up (very gently) is that things other than bookwork can be counted toward homeschooling - Scout badge and rank work, independent projects (you do have to actually work on them though), sports, plays, etc.

But, as your mom, she and your dad set the rules for your homeschool.  If she says that you go 300, then that's what your minimum is.  Be glad she's only requiring what the state "recommends"! :)

Bottom line...if you know it's a hot spot with her, just comply.  I know it might be annoying, but it's not difficult, it'll spare your social life, and it'll make things a lot easier on your mom.  Then, someday you can do the same thing to your kids ;)

  7. Keep it cool and turn on her nice side for a month, then show her the illinois law website.

  8. You keep her from going crazy by respecting her and obeying her.  Treat her with respect and you might get some in return.

You may think you know everything you need to know, but buddy, you don't.  You don't know enough to use capital letters to start a new sentence.  You don't know enough not to write a run-on sentence or a sentence fragment, or even punctuation.

You don't indicate how old you are, but you seem to be very immature if you think you've had enough school for the year.  If she "goes crazy" when you try to show her something, you should look at the way you present it.  She isn't grounding you because you want her to look at a website.

  9. That's too bad that your mom's not willing to listen. It sounds like the 176 days is just an excuse, that there's something about homeschooling that bothers her but she can't express it so she uses it as an excuse to not homeschool. (I'm assuming from your comment that you don't homeschool and you want to but she won't let you.)
