  1. The best gestimation is from a vet based on teeth HOWEVER the darker teeth thing I disagree with. My dogs teeth have been pearly white since they were born and some are bordering on 10 their teeth are STILL that white. Darker simply means tartar buildup which is not healthy not age.

  2. The vet can give you a base year determined on the size and wear of the teeth.  She should get shots if you just got her.  Don't forget the monthly heartworm meds, too!

  3. Tartar buildup and wear on the teeth is the best way to determine a dog's age..

  4. Once a dog gets all their adult teeth in, it really starts to become difficult to determine age.  It's all pretty much a guessing game based on the tartar build up on teeth, hair coat, attitude.

Your best bet is to ask your vet to give you a rough estimate of age.

  5. Your vet can give you a good estimate based on her teeth.

To the above: It's actually Shih-tzu

  6. contact the breeder.

  7. its shihtzu not shitzu

  8. a vet gives a best guess on age by looking at their teeth...i'll assume you take your dog to the vet...so just ask next time

  9. The teeth. The larger and darker the older the dog.
