It depends on what you want to learn. There are lots of great books. Also you can check into Clayton College; I am enrolled in their Family Herbalist program. If you are looking into alternative medicine as a career, you might want to look into naturopthic medical schools ( http://www.naturopathic.org/viewbulletin... ). The first book I would recommend is The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Healing Remedies ( you can buy it on Amazon).

In the alternative medicine Ayush - Ayurveda, Unaani, Siddha and Homeopathy are recognised in India and for all  goverment recognised colleges are there. Each and every state goverment are running their own state colleges and private colleges are there recognised by both centre and state. So, join in the colleges which you prefer to learn. That is decent education.

Second one, if you are laready aged, not in a position to attend in any college, some institutions are giving theory trainings, which you can learn the methodology of particular alternative method. BUT YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ANY TYPE OF PRACTICE. IT IS ONLY FOR GAINING KNOWLEDGE ,  UNDERSTANDING THE BASICS OF THE SUBJECT TO SOME EXTENT FOR SELF TREATMENT. After completing such thoery, you can work under a genuine practitioner for practical experience.
