  1. There are plenty of tutorials online that will walk you through doing various things in AutoCad. Just google "AutoCad tutorials" I've done a few and they were very helpful. I just can't remember the exact sites but I found them by searching for tutorials. Good luck!

  2. even though it could be around 100 bucks or more, i would go to a local college and purchase a cad tutorial book from them.   OR at least find out what the book is and buy it online at half.com.   it should be an easy step by step book to learn cad.   for actual civil engineering designs you will probably need SurvCAD which runs in/with cad.   this will give you some more tools to help design roads and ponds and drainage designs.    if you need some drainage, they have STORMCAD and SEWERCAD.     basic autocad is meant more for electrical and mechanical engineers, but a basic understanding of any cad program will give you much help for your civil career.

the best way to learn would be to do some type of internship for a company that uses cad.  let some guys with experience help you out and teach you.

i am a civil engineer, just graduated last year, but i work as a mining engineer.  we do all the same basic road designs, and ponds and things, but geared toward mining.  all that means is that we dont have to really calculate curves and stuff in as much detail.   i had no mining experience when i started work, but have caught on quickly.   the only real cad experiece i had before this job was geared toward mechanically drawings and 3d drawings which i do not do in a civil field.   but like i said, once you get the basic cad down, there isn't much to learn.

good luck in your learning. hope this helped.

  3. go to the autodesk website. you can download or order a trial version of AutoCAD for free. The trial version will give tutorials on basic operations. Also try your local library for books that may help. Practice makes perfect.
