Baby I'll tell you the same thing that they told me when I came to this country, look for friends, off course a boyfriend or girlfriend, (depends your preference...) is even the best choice bs with love everything is easier. Now  if you add some classes at NYU is you live in NY or any other institution ( again depends of your financial situation) will be very nice and faster. Listen music, get involved with the culture, food, traditions etc.. trust me soon you'll be asking questions only in japanese to us, and I'll be the first in congratulate you.

to speak it? they have these really good books at barnes n noble... that come with book and tape called rosetta... or rosetta stone or something? lol i've heard they are excellent, my dads wifey learned spanish from them and now speaks it fluently
