i love music

i have had no formal training to speak of but have danced for many years in a pro/am partnership. i would be the amature partner. she would lead in the beggining of each song, in order to be on time. i would be able to take it from there for the length of the dance performance and stay on time.

i love to return to dance and would like to my hand at the guitar and key boards, but have no idea where to start. so i thought that learning to count music would be as good a place as any.

i also have the ability to hear the beat and keep it very well and i know when a note is off just by hearing it. i'm good with the rythm too.

can anyone help me with the counting, please!

thanks.

  1. well actually band class helped me alot with counting music in dance class, but even before that i was always kind of just in sync ( no pun intended) with music.

  3. If you are good with the rhythm than you CAN count music. Just start counting on the beat like you probably did in dance. Most songs have a 4/4 beat. Which means there are 4 counts in each measure so you would count to 4 (or 8) over and over again. Most choruses last four 8 counts.

If want to learn an instrument my advice would be to focus on learning how to read music and I would start on the piano rather than the guitar. The piano is a very simple instrument and a great starter instrument.
