You would have to file a petiton for a name change with the court in the county where you reside.  You'll be required to post legal notices in newspapers to announce the name change, after that you will go to court with proof that you ran the notice in the paper, you will have to pay a fee (the amount may very from state to state or county to county) and the judge most likely will grant you the name change.  There are instances when the judge may deny the request, for instance if the name is innapropriate, frivolous etc.

  4. Assuming you live in England, you can get this done free of charge a citizens advice centre. Google citizens advice & find the nearest one to you. Phone them to see if they do this service & if they do, make an appointment. I changed my sons surname there, & was offered the chance to change mine at the same time. I declined, as I thought that if I changed my surname to the same one as my partners, he'd never marry me. That was 4 years ago, & I'm still a Miss!!!
