I have high speed cable and an 802.11g router and when i try to play counter-strike (or anything really) my ping sits in between 100 and 150. Which as any online gamer knows, is possible for removal from a lot of servers. When i connect the ethernet cable, it sits between 100 and 200 and often spikes to 400-500. Which is...ridiculous. What can i do?

  1. Your problem is in setup of steam.  When you open Steam go to setting.  Your probably are setup as a 56K modem speed.  Go to your proper setting on modem speed and it will reflect in your ping for counterstrike.

Hey I play day of defeat all the time.  Sometimes Admin play with my settings and my ping throws me out of the game so I have to get to setting and reset it to the proper speed of my cable modem.

Now don't kill anyone, aaah go ahead do it.

  2. frame rate is effected by many things such as graphics on your desktop back ground  turn them off also if the server you are connecting to is secure turn down your fire wall settings to the lowest setting  this should also improve your ping time just remember to turn your settings back to where you had them be for

  3. Your ping is high usually when because of either a slow internet connection and/or the distance between you and the server.

Your internet connection would be fast enough, are you using wireless internet? That, in my opinion would be the biggest problem, apart from that, its pretty much all down to how far away the server is.
