i am majoring in fine arts in my college now which offers only fine arts and graphic design.

i was thinking i would transfer sophomore year to Ringling college of art and design into their computer animation program but it was full last year, so is it possible to get a bach. in graphic design and then master comp. animation at another school or is that a waste of time and money? and i should just transfer next year. or maybe graphic design aint that bad. im into painting, and prints, lines, animation things >_<

  1. It would be extremely difficult/impossible to get into a master's degree in animation if you had never studied it before... postgraduate degrees begin at an advanced level because they assume years of previous study, and you would have to produce a showreel demonstrating your animation skills to get into the course.

Realistically, you will have to switch if you want to pursue animation. Why not email the college you are interested in and ask if you will be able to transfer? You can only try, and if you don't get in you haven't lost anything. :) If it's something you really want to do and you can't get into that particular college, you should consider going further afield. It's frustrating to be stuck with a degree that isn't the career you want to pursue, and as a computer animation graduate, my own opinion is that it's very much worth it - there's no other art discipline quite like animation!
