  1. Cardboard, which is not very flexible, or bubble wrap & spray paint.

  2. You might be able to use one of those big exercising balls, or a big bouncy ball, depending on which is the right size. Then paint it or cover it in fabric, it depends on what it will be used for.

The question dealt with making items for a life-size Candyland scene.

It might be easiest just to gather a large disk of fabric over stuffing (or crumpled newspapers covered with a layer of batting) by sewing around the edge of the disk, then pullijg on the thread until the shape of the cupcake is right, then gluing it to the top of the cut-off drum.  You could then add frosting or sprinkles or other embellishments on the top with various things... an amoeba-shaped cutout of a shiny white fabric might work well for icing, or you could just paint some acrylic paint on the cupcake fabric (use gloss acrylic paint or add a layer of polyurethane or thinned white glue for the gloss).

  4. oooh a HUGE cupcake !!

I'd get some uphostery foam and use a hot-knife or power knife to carve it.  You could then use fabric over the top to give the "icing" it's color.

Less expensive, but more fragile would be to cut a plywood circle, pile on crumpled newspaper to the right shape, and then cover with paper-mache or plaster-cloth, and then paint the icing.

  5. The top could be made with bunched up fabric. You could buy the fabric the color you want the cupcake or just dye it. You could even fill up the drum with something lumpy like balloons so the fabric is draped over something so it doesn't lose shape or fall back into the drum.
