How can i make an excellent opening paragraph for an essay?

The essay will be concerning a book i had to read this summer and i want to make this essay a great one. please help.

An opening paragraph that starts with a question that captures interest and gets the person thinking about the book, the character, the plot, etc.is a good way to go. Think about the most interesting and important aspect of the book, and ask a question regarding that.  The question might ask the reader to put himself into the place of the main character.  For example if you were writing about The Three Little Pigs,  (I am trying to think of some story that you would have to know --LOL), you could start something like this.

Your two brothers have been murdered.  You are all alone in the world.  The chief suspect in your brothers' murders is knocking at your door. What do you do?

or



Knock, knock.  That's your worst enemy at the door, pretending to be your friend.  What do you do?  This is the problem that confronts Pig #3 in this riveting tale of three brother pigs making their way in the big wide world.
