  1. I wish I could help you. Every time I go to Hawaii I bring a bunch of seed back with me but it never last long enough.

    I have no idea how they are made.

    I did a quick search and found this:

    Prunes, readily available and with a sweet-sour taste, are also popular for homemade seed, though the recipes usually require that you already have two commercially-produced seeds, lemon peel, and li hing mui. With these, the recipe is simplicity itself. Outside Hawaii, li hing mui can be obtained in Asian stores, possibly lemon peel can too.

    PRUNE WET SEEDS, also known as Five-spice Flavored Prunes

    Ingredients:

    1 Tablespoon five-spice powder

    2 Tablespoons whiskey

    1-1/2 cups lemon juice

    3 Tablespoons salt

    3 whole cloves

    1 pound brown sugar

    8 ounces lemon peel from crack seed store (wet or dry)

    8 ounces li hing mui (from crack seed store) 8 12-ounce packets of pitted prunes

    Preparation:

    1. Mix five-spice powder, whiskey, lemon juice, salt, cloves and sugar in a large bowl.

    2. Stir in the lemon peel, li hing mui, and prunes and let this stand for five days, shaking occasionally.

    These are normally eaten like candy, but they are also good (though certainly not traditional) inserted in the middle of a pork loin roast.

    No nutrient analysis because lemon peel is not, size-wise, cut into uniform pieces and because analysis for li hing mui does not exist, nutrient analysis is not provided.
