How can i make friends with people who dont speak my language?

Question

i go to an international school, where everyone speaks english, but most people prefer their native languages. im a native english speaker, and i cant speak other people's languages. its like all the japanese people talk to the japanese people in japanese etc.

how can i talk to people and make more friends in english? its hard to join a conversation when you dont understand the language its in. dont suggest learning all the languages; there are too many to learn and everyone at my school knows english but just doesnt speak it.

Are there certain people you would like to get to know better? I realize it would be tough to learn everyone's language, but a great ice breaker would be to find someone you would like to get to know and ask them if they'd teach you a few words/phrases in their language...it's amazing how a friendship can blossom from something so simple and basic.

Who knows, you may not know everyone's language but by the end of the term or school year, you may know a fair bit of a language or few, due to having befriended people from other places. What a bonus for you in addition to their friendship. ☺

Are you saying that you're the only person in the room who is being ignored and everyone else speaks whatever his language happens to be to his friends?

Do you not have ONE friend whom you lunch with? Is there anyone from any country that speak some sort of English at all?

What you're asking is an opinion on how to make someone speak a foreign language to satisfy your need to be thier friend. If they know english, and choose not to speak it, that is probably your answer right there. Try to find a timid one, and explain it to him/her, and there's a possibility they will convey the message. If not, just accept it. You dont wanna cause another v-tech type of thing.

just say can you help me learn a few words in  there language then you will get talking and then change the subject to something other than language and then you will get to no each other more and become friends (:
