  1. you have to hide the ssId

though it can still be seen with netstumbler or kismac or the like. But will be hidden from normal users

if you do this you will have to manualy set up the wireless connection providing the ssid, encryption type, and password

The SSID (service set identifier), or network name, of your wireless network is required for devices to connect to it. If you don't want random wireless devices to connect to your network, then you certainly don't want to announce your presence and include one of the key pieces of information they need to do so.

By disabling the broadcasting of the SSID, or even the beacon signal itself, you can hide the presence of your wireless network or at least obscure the SSID itself which is critical for a device to connect to your network.

Refer to the owner's manual for your specific wireless access point or router to learn how to access the configuration and administration screens and disable the beacon signal or the broadcasting of the SSID.

  2. You CAN make it invisible to most people.

Turn OFF "ssid broadcasting" from your web based control panel. It should be under the "wireless" section.

This does not mean you don't have to encrypt. You still have to have good security.

  3. You can, go into the routers setup and disable broadcast ssid. There are some advanced devices that will still pick it up though.

  4. There isnt a way to make it invisible, just put a password on it and give it a random name and it will be pretty hard to figure out who's it is.

  5. Don't think you can, but you can set up a password so they can't easily log on to yours
