So I'm begining to think about organising my 18th birthday party. Its not for a while yet, but i want it to go with a bang =]

I f any of you watched Jam and Jerusalem when it was on, i fell in love with Tashi & Spikes wedding party. For those of you who havent got a clue what I'm on about, they had a real hippy style do in a field, with a marquee and an amazing folk band and lots of other cool stuff =]

I live in the country, so a field isnt a problem, i just need ideas for how to make it eco friendly - lighting, food, entertainment etc etc

Any ideas?

Thanks!

  1. You could have some jars(eg. old jam jars) filled with a tealight in each one. You could decorate the outside with glasspaint or old nail varnish!

You could place straw bales around as seating but be careful if using the candles!!You could hang bunting made out of triangular rags on string to look jolly.

Food could be platters of cheese with a selection of breads...all of which could be local. Platters of sliced cold meats and salamis look nice. You could have large bowls of strawberries and cream.People could bring their own drinks and you could have recycling areas for the cans and bottles eg. black dustbins wrapped in colourful saris?

Ask if a local secondary school has a band/ selection of musical styles and you could make a donation to their school in exchange for providing entertainment.

  2. Some suggestions:

    - Buy food local so it hasn't travelled

    - For invites, use recycled paper

    Hope it goes well! :D

  3. When serving your party food and drinks, go for the real thing instead of disposable. If you decide to go disposable, remember that Styrofoam and plastic products are definite no-nos. Use biodegradable cups and plates made from corn "plastic" or bamboo — they're as sturdy as paper and plastic, but they compost in just over a month.

  4. There's no such thing as eco-friendly.

Everything (yes everything) adds to the polution in, on and around our planet.

    Mark my words.

  5. eco freindly is so boring, do something fun go on! oil and plastic bon fires! :D

  6. Get food from a farmers market or just some local produce.

    Use real plates and glasses.

Cook your food over your bonfire if you want.

See if anyone plays the guitar or just play music on a boombox or something.

Call or send emails/evites for inviting people.
