  1. You did not tell us what you have.

    Tips from the professionals:

    1) Use a tripod.

    2) Be close to your subject (if you can't zoom).

    3) When you pan, pan S L O W L Y.

    4) When you zoom, zoom S L O W L Y - better yet, don't zoom at all.

Someone who knows what their camera can do - and uses that information to gain experience and take advantage of the limitations of their camera can produce WAY better video than someone who is impatient and unwilling to learn and has no experience - even with the best camera available.

Since we don't know what camcorder or computer you have:

If you are using a miniDV or Digital8 tape camcorder, you need a firewire cable to connect the DV port on the camcorder to the firewire 400 port on your computer. If you don't have one, they are cheap to add. The cables are cheap, too.

If you are using a flash memory or hard drive based camcorder, your computer will see the camcorder and mount it to the desktop like any other USB mass storage device. Copy the video files to your hard drive. You may need to convert the MPEG2 file.

If your camcorder uses miniDVD optical discs, NEVER put a miniDVD in a slot loading optical drive. If your computer has a drawer loading DVD drive, you can rip the video with HandBrake http://handbrake.fr/

If you do not have a drawer loading optical drive, you can get an external DVD drive (I like LaCie), or, using the AV cable that came with the camcorder, you will need to use an "analog/digital bridge" from http://canopus.com/products/videoconvers... if your computer has a firewire port or http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us... if your computer only has USB. Use these bridges for analog camcorders like VHS, VHS-C, Video 8 and Hi8.

On transferring video - what did the manual say?
