How can i make my birds feathers look smooth?

bird usualy do this on their own. if this is a house broken brd and lets yu pet him, yu can try to just brush his feathers wit ur hand gently strokin it wit ur hand. or yu can also find sprays thats can do this and it makes him look young and clean. but its best to just et them do it on their own cuz they might not like the fact of being " man handled". good luck. oh and be careful cuz a bird's feathers' are verysesnitive and a slight tug could make him lose that feather or he might give yu a bite. wen using spray, keep it outta his eyes

Do you give him water to bathe in, water helps to clean their feathers and helps with preening. If he doesn't like to bathe then use a mister bottle and spray him. If they preen and can't get the feathers to lay flat it can stress them and cause feather plucking.

My African Grey doesn't like water, so I have to spray him, he scream the house down but it helps to keep his feather clean and smooth.

Mist or bathe it regularly, at least twice a week for optimum feather condition. Give it a healthy diet, enough fruit and veggies are important. I'm pretty sure the bird itself will do the rest by preening. If the bird is having a moult, then it will replace its old feathers with fresh ones by itself, so it will look normal again after 2-3 weeks at most.

birds make their own feathers look smooth by preen trying to make their feathers look smooth by hand rarely works so you should let the bird do it

Well if he is molting as they do twice a year, there is nothing much you can do except wait for the feathers to grow back. Other than that feed him the best food possible. Fruits, veg. seeds and pellets.  Most cockatiels like dandelion greens that you can get a the grocery store, apples anything but avocados.  Good Luck

u dont need to the birds do that on their own just like they do in the wild its not like in the wild they have humans to smooth their tailfeathers
