Cacti respond to rich growing conditions the same as any other plant. Just because its a cactus does not mean that you have to keep it in desert like conditions. My family used to grow tomatoes commercially and I became interested in cacti. So in one of our large greenhouses were growing my collection of cacti. Arguably it was the best collection for many miles. They were always producing stupendous flowers and growing like mad. The secret? I used ordinary soil with perhaps a little extra gravel to help it drain-AND LOADS OF TOMATO FERTILIZER! Try it-you will be amazed. High temperature, plenty of sunlight, plenty of water and fertilizer.
