  1. Flick your wrist and make sure when you release the ball your fingers should almost appear to be snapping.

  2. Sandpaper in your glove lol.......or through more over the top more then side.....this will give you a good 12-6 drop but it also depends on were you hold the laces...now nobody knows how you do sooo kinda hard to answer the question

  3. try flicking your wrist more when you throw.

  4. Heel of your palm on the curve in the stitches, index and middle fingers on the stitches running down the ball respectively. As you throw, right when you let go, flick your wrist so that your fingers are pointing down.  That's what works for me.

  5. I recommend you learn how to throw your change up and fastball at game speed with consistent location first before you learn any other new pitches. The breaking ball should be something you work on when you are physically more mature. Earliest would be 15, the latest 17. That is the window of opportunity you have to develop your breaking pitches before your Senior year.

Do you know what the toughest pitch in baseball is to hit?

The Change up. Now why would that be better than a 100 mph fastball or a 12-6 curveball or wicked slider? Because all those pitches have a certain spin, especially the breaking pitches that form a red dot when thrown correctly with fastball arm speed, but change ups do not have this weakness. Change ups have a fastball spin and are thrown with a fastball arm speed. So, if you are a hitter and you are facing a guy who throws with decent velocity (see http://theprospect09.googlepages.com to learn more about pitching mechanics by reading the article entitled "Pitching") how would you be able to defend a pitch that looks just like a fastball but is 10-15 mph slower with downward movement?

The answer is you cannot! A change up thrown with a fastball arm speed (meaning you are delivering the ball with your body and your arm is along for the ride creating a whipping effect) is the most devastating pitch in baseball, because hitters cannot tell the difference until it is too late so they simply miss it, pop out, or weakly roll over on the pitch.

Good luck and feel free to email me at theprospect09@gmail.com if you have any more questions.

p.s.- throwing your curveball with a fastball arm speed is going to give it more movement. Make sure that you are applying pressure with your thumb and middle finger while lightly laying your index finger for control purposes.

  6. It depends on how hard you throw it.  If you are young and can't throw between 75 and 85 mph, you aren't going to get much movement.  If you throw it too hard (over 85-90) it will lose movement.  The ball curves because of low pressure created by the spin and laces.  It just works best in a certain window of velocity.
