How can i make my house cool? (bachelor pad) or just relaly nice or etc?

i am renting a house, been living here two months now , i am the only one who lives here, was just wondering if anyone knew of any cool ideas, or neat things, that are cost efficiant, that i can do to make my house look really cool.

i want it to feel tropical, but thats hard to do with little money, but i want to like make everything cool in here, any ideas?

any at all, even if they are old lady ideas, lol not to seem offensive, i enjoy things liek that too, i have a garden that i keep, and rose bushes. but im also into things like video games, beer, etc.

If you want a tropical feel for little money, then baskets are your best friend. You can get a tall thin one and put some tall bamboo poles in it of different sizes and put it in the corner of the living room or your bedroom. It is a designer look that is still masculine.

Think about a big straw mat from Cost Plus or Pier One used as an area rug. Then get a big bright colored bowl from Big Lots or Wal Mart for the coffee table and put a big pile of lemons and limes in it.

It's tropical, not girly, adds a punch of color to the room and also makes the house smell good. When they've been there a while, make lemonade and margharitas with them then get new ones!! : P

Get some inexpensive throw pillows in bright tropical colors like turquoise, yellow, green, and blue and put them on the sofa. If you surf, stand your surfboard in one corner. It will look cool and be a conversation starter with the girls.

Put a big seashell in the bathroom with face cloths rolled up in it or put one on the kitchen counter with nuts in it.

You can also get a big piece of tropical print fabric at a fabric store and hang it at the head of your bed for a headboard effect.
