  1. visit a local hobby store for advice & ideas.

  2. You can use Velum (print design on a printer then cut out with box knife) you may need several stencils to get the right effect (one for the large image and a few for the smaller layers). You could cut out a sponge to the shape you desire then glue it to a piece of cardboard then use that as a stamp. If the design is small you can also carve it out of a potato and stamp that shape to the wall. You should also look at "painting tools" at the hardware store some textured rollers will give the effect of wall paper with just paint and a special roller. Good Luck!

  3. See if the X ray department of a local hospital will give you their old used Xray films. A professional stencil artist I know says they are terrific and last forever if you use a good sharp Xacto knife to cut out your patterns.

Be super careful when you cut the pattern and leave little connecting bars so the stencil will hang together. If you cut completely around a motif, then it will just drop right out along with any details you wanted in the middle of it. Not good. It happened to me the first time I tried to do my own stencil. You just touch up the little bar areas by hand later.

    Good luck!! : )

  4. i used sponges

  5. you can buy stencil card or acetate from craft stores or you can make your own. by taking some stiffish card(not to thick), printing your design onto and then wiping both sides of card with linseed oil till card looks kinda transparent,,, allow this to air dry for a day or two and cut out design with a sharp scalpel or craft knife
