  1. to build your own antenna requires a bit of knowledge about how radio - or in this case TV - works.

Th common TV antenna is a Yagi and since the broadcast band extends from 56MHz to nearly 700MHz, dipole elements are arranged in a logrythmic configuration to get maximun bandwidth from a minimal number of dipole elements.

The antenna feedline is normally 75 ohms, the dipole is 75 ohms, connection to the antenna is via a 1:1 balun.

  2. Bob and RT are correct !!! You can make an antenna , buy aluminium tubing  , lots of measuring sawing to length, spacing correctly , bending , cursing using up all your band aids on fingers and eventually you may have an antenna that actually works about half as good as a bought one !!!

EDIT. Don't worry about the Troll Well lit , I think it gives an idea of how many morons there are around with out actually doing a survey !

  3. Yes, you actually can build a pretty simple antenna that works either indoors or outdoors. Here is the site with the detailed instructions. Enjoy!

  4. What you are proposing can be done, however it's not a good idea.  Basically, you are going to attempt make a low power transmitter out of your cable signal.  It won't be strong enough to give you a good signal in your room and will be subject to interference.

Your best bet would be to put in a cable splitter and run a cable to your room.  This would take a bit of work to install the cable neatly, but will give you much better results.

BTW, the people who say antennas are dead are seriously mistaken.

  5. I dont recommend having a TV antenna lol. Starting February 2009, you will no longer be able to use antennas from what I heard. Just get digital, the best way to go
