I don't know if this is some kind of joke, but I meant going green.

  1. Learn what schools across the nation are doing to go green here: http://www.naturalhomemagazine.com/2009-...

    Here are some more tips:

1 Ask the grounds crew to use natural herbicides and pesticides.

2 Create paper, plastic, and aluminum recycling centers near waste bins.

    3 Switch to CFLs

4 Expose children to natural light

5 Serve organic food in the cafeteria whenever possible

6 Eliminate waste, such as Styrofoam

  2. Have them get a can of green paint and paint it. I drive my Hummer 100,000 miles annually. I took it to Earl Sheib two years ago and had it painted bright green. I now have the greenest car on the block. I have started taking my Hummer everyplace to promote being green. So far I have had several hundred people join me in going green by painting their house. One guy two blocks from my house even used a 1950 can of lead paint to paint his. This shows what we all can do if we really want to become green. I also buy hundreds of the old fashioned light bulbs and give them a green tint. People are buying these from me at about a hundred a day. They are cheaper then the new bulbs found at so called environmental stores which are not even green. I have the greenest lawn on the block. I use pesticides to clear up the weeds and of course water it several times a day. My neighbor is a hypocrite who claims to be green but he has a blue house and no lawn, and drives a brown Prius. Some people I guess just don't care about the environment I guess.

I put green food coloring in my green plastic water bottles. My neighbor uses regular tap water. I told him he needs to get with the green program to save the Earth but he acts as if he does not care. I even offered to use some of my other neighbor's left over green leaded paint and he looked at me with a funny face. I tried to explain how going green would protect the world from global warming. I found out latr he does not even use his air conditioner.  I at least try to help keep the earth cool by running mine 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I explained to hime that the cost was a small price to pay to try to keep the Earth cool. He still refuses to listen . Some people!!!!!

  3. Bulldoze it off the land and plant some trees there.

Think about it - how 'green' is cement and blacktop and toilets and trash cans...

  4. Lots of thing recycle special light bulbs and lots more solar panels search it!

  5. There are lots of things you can do to help make your school a little greener.

    - Encourage your cafeteria to stop using Styrofoam dishes and instead try using the ones that can be reused and washed (if its possible to get funding). It would be great if you can also convince your school to cook using locally grown foods. You can do a "Salad bar" during spring and fall, which will encourage kids to eat more veggies. You can have your school contact local farmers and see what they can do for your school.

    - Post signs throughout each and every classroom/staff room/library/etc that encourages students and staff to turn off the lights during recess/lunch/at the end of the day.

    - Try having a tree planting day for one day a month or so

    - Encourage reducing! Ask that a note be placed in the staff room around the photo copy machine to encourage printing on both sides of the page (which in turn reduces the amount of paper needed, and therefore saves your school money!).

    - Bring up the idea of planting a natural garden in your school yard (if its possible). Anything can be planted, from beautiful native flowers from your city or area, to a vegetable garden filled with tomatoes, lettuce, etc (plus: if your school has a food and nutrition class, the kids can use the vegetables in the classroom; again saving your school money). You can raise money for the garden by hosting a "movie night" in the afternoon and playing environmental movies such as "An inconvenient Truth", "The 11th Hour" and "The Simpson's Movie".

-"Adopt" the street your school is located on and have a clean-up day once a month of the street.

Here are a few tips to help your school reduce electricity costs:

    - Ensure that the programmable thermostats in the school is set to 21 C in the winter and 25 C in the spring and summer.

    - Have your school replace old inefficient computers and TVs/VCRs/DVD players to Energy Star rated ones.

    - Encourage the school to change to CFL lightbulbs

Another neat idea is to set up a swap program (maybe you can call it "Swap-a-roo...if its not too cheezy) and the kids can bring in old computers, desks, back packs, and anything else school related that other needy-students would want but cannot afford. This way, you are encouraging students to reduce the waste that they were to have made if they were to have tossed it in a landfill.

I hope some of these suggestions helped, and ive also added some websites that might be of good use to you! Good luck!

  6. Try to get recycling bins in the cafeteria for plastic and glass bottles.

If the lunch line uses trays that you throughout, get them to switch to ones they wash.

  7. paint and lots of it

  8. I'd start by calculating how green it really is.  Consider skipping the more obvious places to look (like recycling).

How much heating oil/gas do they burn to heat the school? (you can ask to check the utility bills -- it's all there).  Is there sufficient insulation? How much would be saved if there were? At what cost?

Are there there timers on the lights?

Do parents and bus drivers idle their cars during pick up and drop off time? Calculate how many cars/buses come and go each day, and how much time they spend idling, then calculate what would be saved (in both gas and pollution) if they turned their cars off while they waited? How much if the cars were cut down by half due to carpooling (consider lobbying to get a car pool lane put in).

Once you show up with these calculations, people will likely be surprised, and become more aware.  And once they become more aware, they'll start conserving elsewhere too.

  9. Get them to buy a lot of green paint.
