How can i make my ypbpr plasma receive digital signal for high resolution such as 1080p?

My panasonic plasma (model th-42phd6) only has inputs: VD, HD, PR/CR/R, PB/CB/B,and Y/G. I want it to receive 1080p signal like an hdmi. How can i do that?

  1. 42" Plasma usually support 1080i or 720p since their native resolution is 720p. So, inputing 1080p (even if supported) does not buy you anything, since the TV will scale it back to 720p.

    Use component cables and set your input to either 1080i or 720p.


  2. First, you can't. Second, unless you have Blu-ray or PS3 games you don't have any 1080p sources anyway (HDTV is all 720p or 1080i). Furthermore, you don't need HDMIl to get HD (at least not for 2-3 years or until HDCP is active).

    Use component cables and feed 1080i input which will be deinterlaced by the video processor circuitry in the TV to 1080p for display.  Some HDTVs don't deinterlace properly, but if yours does (Panasonic are mainly OK -- See 2nd link) you will get a great picture. Note that most professional video installers still use component cables in preference to HDMI since in most cases they give as good or better results.
