Question:

How can i make shadows appear bigger?

Its for a science project, on optics.

  1. According to Wiki (link below), the closer the angle between the directed light source and the object casting the shadow is to ninety degrees, the larger the shadow.

    If I wanted to demonstrate this for a science project I'd get a  wide beam flashlight and show that if I lit an object from the side (so that the bottom of the beam lines up with the bottom of the object) it has a really big shadow, and then move the torch above the object fairly slowly to show that its shadow gets smaller as the bottom of the beam moves further from the bottom of the object.

    You need a fairly dark room for this to be really effective, but it does it work, I just tried it with the big torch I use for camping and it worked pretty well. I'd be careful about using this to make people's shadows look bigger though, because people sometimes get annoyed when you shine bright lights in their eyes in dark rooms.


  2. Move the light and the object casting the shadow farther from the place that the shadow is cast on or move the light closer to the object casting the shadow.  Both of them worked when I tried it.
