How can i make stuff stick to a diaper cake?

im making a beautiful diaper cake for a friends baby shower and im up to the part where i put the shampoo, powder, etc around the outside of the cake but im having trouble making the stuff stay.. it keeps falling off.

i tried double sided tape but that doesnt work.

i tried using thread and securing the items to the cake put that just looks sloppy..

and other ideas??

Tape the items the best you can, and then tie a large (thick) ribbon around the outside of the items on the bottom.  It looks pretty and will steady the items.

The lady who made mine used "glue dots" they are much stronger than tape. im sure any craft store has them. or you could just finish putting it together once you get there, jsut put the stuff on it, no need for tape. I kept mine together for about a week after I gave birth, the diapers she used were newborn and i needed to use them up before she outgrew them

Try hot gluing ribbon to the items and going around in a circle with the items.

You need to put light things on the cake. Also make the layers stick out so you can just set them on top of the layer. Use ribbon and tie things to hang off like a rattle, baby shoes or pasies.

Also, use different sizes for each layer. Put a "tree" type thing sticking out of the top and you can put string or ribbon on it and let items hang from it.

when i made one i used organza ribbon and threaded it in and out of the layers.

for the bottles of shampoo and things just add a dab of craft glue and sit it inside the ribbon so it just sticks it will stay in place and not look messy with tape and thread.

it does take time but it is worth it in the end

Try using ribbon to tie it on...then you can curl the left over parts of the ribbon for decoration.

use a rubber band

stick the items inside the band, once you are done, cover it with nice wide ribbon

I know you said you've tried using thread, but what about fishing line? Its clear so it shouldn't look sloppy, just sew it into diapers behind it.

What on earth is  "diaper cake"?  Are you making a cake out of nappies?  YUCK!
