How can i make the government change its ways?

Question

Say I was really upset with the way government practiced some administrative process such as the national defecit. How would I, a regular citizen, find out what channels to go through to change a governmental practice?

beyond that contact your state representatives, their names/phone numbers/e-mail addresses are usually listed on your state's website - Michigan is Michigan.gov; not sure of the others but I'm sure they are similar.

Sign a petition and don't get to rowdy at a protest rally. If you see the police throwing tear gas....run

The national deficit is too large a problem for one citizen. Find an issue that you feel is important, or something that you would like the government to do and write to your State Representative and State Senator about it. If it is a matter that can be handled on the local level you might want to propose a new ordinance for you city or a new bylaw for your town. It is quite surprising the amount of issues that can be addressed by local government. If it is a national issue you should write to your Congressman and Senator and even the President if it is very very  important.

Here are some ideas for issues:

1.  23 hours 59 minutes of voting on Election Day whenever a President is to be elected.

2. Stop the conversion of apartments rental  for average citizen into condominiums for well to do.

3. Get a local ordinance or bylaw passed permitting pets to be kept by all tenants in your town.

4. Your idea here!!!!!!!!!
