  1. welllll..... there really isn't much to it except for statistics and probability, as well as an awesome memory. read some books about statistics, or take a course in it in school. as for the books, I haven't seen any, but the must be some out there.

  2. There are many books, some are very good, and some are only good for toilet paper, be choosey when selecting one.  I recommend for a first time counter, "Blackjack, play like the pros" by John Bukofsky  Not to be confused with "Play balckjack like the pros" by kevin blackwood which is also a good book.  Both of these are fairly new and will do fine.

More about card counting though. for starters, its a long road to learn everything, before you ebgine i recomend you go here: http://www.qfit.com/blackjack.htm to see what its all about.  Take this information lightly as all information i have ever foudn on the web is incomplete and missing many key details (including this link) it even mentions that it is in the begining though sort of indirectly.  You need to buy a book to get everything.

You also need to learn and memorise playing strategy which takes a long time, and also varries based on different rules, so if you want to learn i recommend you go here: http://www.hitorstand.net and start practicing today

Then when your done memorising that strategy, you need to memorise the strategy changes based on different rules and such

Then when your done memorising that you need to memorise when to change your strategy based on the count

Then (more memorising) this time how to calculate the hosue edge of a game based on some numbers (that need to be memorised)

You need to learn to count the cards and add them up to the point where it is natural and almost second nature, you also need to become very fast at this.

And much much more, but ima leave it there for you to ponder.
