I have no contacts in Ireland, no job waiting, and no interest in renouncing my US citizenship. I am an american and i want to live in Ireland for the next 5-7 years more or less if my heart desires. What I want to know is - I see people, especially in the UK that move in and out of countries, living there and never seem to have a problem doing it. I'd like to know what happens behind the scenes. What are the steps to do it? Is there a website that you can recommend as an excellent resource. Something that would have tips on finding jobs, finding "reasons" that would gain you extended visas, money, gaining residence, etc. I'm aware of Ireland's requirement to become a citizen. One of those requirements is living in the country for 6 years. That's what I want to know. How can I make that happen, without having the citizenship? Is there an UK version of a green card?

  1. You have to be immigrated

through work if you are offered or accepted for a job there

marriage if you have a love one there you can immigrate over there to be with them

parents if your parents are there you can immigrate there to be with them

    adoption for minors under 18

    ask for citizenship permission

There are 4 ways that i know of that you can immigrate to another country.

My family has been utilizing these 4 ways for years to immigrate relatives from Vietnam to canada

  2. There's a tear in your eye,

    And I'm wondering why,

For it never should be there at all.

With such pow'r in your smile,

    Sure a stone you'd beguile,

So there's never a teardrop should fall.

    When your sweet lilting laughter's

    Like some fairy song,

    And your eyes twinkle bright as can be;

You should laugh all the while

    And all other times smile,

And now, smile a smile for me.

    Chorus

    When Irish eyes are smiling,

Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring.

In the lilt of Irish laughter

You can hear the angels sing.

    When Irish hearts are happy,

All the world seems bright and g*y.

And when Irish eyes are smiling,

Sure, they steal your heart away.

For your smile is a part

Of the love in your heart,

And it makes even sunshine more bright.

    Like the linnet's sweet song,

    Crooning all the day long,

    Comes your laughter and light.

    For the springtime of life

    Is the sweetest of all

    There is ne'er a real care or regret;

    And while springtime is ours

    Throughout all of youth's hours,

Let us smile each chance we get.

  7. The first thing you need to do is look into getting a visa or if you have an Irish parent or grandparent, even a British parent or grandparent if you can apply for an Irish (or British) passport.

This link has information on moving to Ireland.

As I don't currently live in Ireland I can't give you information on the costs of every day living - groceries, electricity, rent, etc. Other answerers on this site should be able to tell you more about that.

But this is a link to another site used by Irish people where you can chat to people & find information:

    To look at rental costs:

I'd also go to the library and have a look a few guidebooks on Ireland, or do what some people do here, visit Borders or Barnes & Noble and have a look at a few guidebooks while having a coffee.
