Question:

How can i move up in the corporate ladder?

I have been working at my job for about 8 months now and i feel that i am ready to move up to the next postition. but what i dont understand is how can some on who has been there in less time then me be my supervisor. what should i do?

  1. Meet with your manager.  Ask them their assessment of how you are doing on the job.  Your manager should have met with you after your first month on the job to give you feedback.  I person is promoted when they begin to do the job above them, while they are still doing the job they are in.  They take on more work than is expected currently.  They go out of their way to help their peer colleagues.  Time on a job has very little to do with promotion, it's the quality of your work and showing the desire to actively learn more....a company will invest in you if they see you as an asset.
