I was wondering if someone can tell me if there is a way i could make it that i can use a CD-R or something like that. I don't know much about this sort of stuff so i think i need all the help i can get.

Oh i am on dial-up right now. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

  1. all you need is a crossover cable just plug the 2 ethernet ports togther and let win xp take over

can get the cable from any computer repair shop (mom&pop)

can make one with parts from home depot

this make a cable a crossover (also tell you the pattern to make your own )

this one is what i use its usb/usb with a flash to make the other copmuter look like a hard drive

just added this if on dial up using a network crossover cable is about 100 times faster than using your dial up for a  network and allmost no chance of being droped

win xp is good when it comes to local networks only takes a min to setup

to the peep that gave this a thumb down please post what is wrong with this ?maybe 5$ for a short crossover cable gotten locally ,usb to usb is plug n play . so for a novice looks like a straight forward cure for a problem

thinking that asker wants to sync music files on dial up that could take days

  2. You don't need to make the Floppy or the CD. If you run the network setup wizard on each machine and enter the same information you will connect!  I haven't used a floppy or cd to setup a network in years!

Just run the Wizard, on each machine, enter the exact information to set the workgroup name and to enable sharing. Your done!

You won't be able to connect those machines with your dial-up, You need to use an ethernet cable between the two machines. (That makes a LOCAL network.)  You can then enable ICS (internet connection sharing) to use the modem that you are connecting with on the machine that is internet connected!  (With dial-up that will be really slow!)

  3. When you download the Setup disks, the download contains only one large program file. When you run the downloaded file, it extracts the files. You receive the following prompt: This program creates the Setup boot disks for Microsoft Windows XP. To create these disks, you need to provide 6 blank, formatted, high-density disks.

Insert one of these disks into drive drive letter :. This disk will become the Windows XP Setup Boot Disk.

Press any key when you are ready.

When you press a key, the downloaded file starts extracting and copying the files. Continue inserting the blank disks as you are prompted to do so until all six disks are created. If the process is interrupted you must run the downloaded program file again to create all six disks.

After you create all six disks, insert the first disk in the floppy disk drive, and then restart the computer. Note that the computer must be configured to boot from the floppy disk drive. In some cases, you may need to modify your computer's BIOS settings to do this.

The Setup process starts. Insert the other floppy disks as you are prompted to do so. Note that you will need to use the Windows XP CD-ROM to finish Setup.

  4. It would be easiest to use a flash drive.

Even if your pc is older, there will be a usb port on the back for the flash drive.

If you don't want to spend $15 for a new one,

    borrow someone's.

    OR

burn the info onto a CD.
