How can i open the .avi files at sony vegas?

i downloaded some .avi files for AMV, but when i tried to open it at sony vegas it doesn't want to import it there.

first of all go to www.free-codecs.com and download K-lite codec pack. it's the most complete codec pack i have ever seen. after you installed the codec pack and restarted Sony Vegas try to import again if it didn't work you need to convert the file to a common format such as WMV or DivX AVI, use a conversion software or an online conversion service.
