  1. 3 questions you may be able to get your answer from.1]what are you trying to accomplish<2]what is active X<3]xp professional has individual administrator accounts.are you trying to over ride your self<

  2. Maybe your Active X security settings are too high.

Go back to Internet Options>>Security, then choose Internet then Custom Level.

When the Security Settings panel open: change the settings for this Zone on how it should deal with Active X. You could also set the Custom settings to Medium (recommended) and clicking Reset button would normally change all the settings with the radio button.

For Trusted Sites, [Internet Options>>Security, choose Trusted Sites], I would normally choose Low Security Settings with the following configurations:

Check: Enable 'Automatic prompting of ActiveX controls'

Check: Enable ' Binary and script behavior'

Check: Enable 'Download signed ActiveX controls'

Check: Prompt 'Download unsigned ActiveX controls'

Check: Prompt 'Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe'

Check: Enable 'Run ActiveX controls and plugins'

Check: Enable 'Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting'

If settings as discussed above are not saved, then probably another Administrator have enabled the Group Policy security settings which would overide all security settings for ALL administrators, including you.

    Try reviewing these settings: Start>>Run>>gpedit.msc

When Group Policy Editor opens, browse to Local Computer Policy >> Computer Configuration>>Administrative Templates>>Windows Components>>Internet Explorer>>Security Features>>Restrict ActiveX Install.

Verify the configuration settings in the right panel:

The states of the following should be 'Not Configured'

           Internet Explorer Processes

           Process List

           Alll Processess

Also view the same settings under the User Configuration>>Administrative Templates>>Windows Components>>Internet Explorer>>Security Features>>Restrict ActiveX Install.

If everything fails, then ask the Administrator, who changed these security settings. Sometimes, some users are not afforded Administrator rights, for security reasons or wrongly tweaking these settings could render your computer unusable.
