How can i overcome aviophobia,fear of flying?

  1. "Aviophobia" means "fear of birds," though you will see it mistakenly listed as the name for "fear of flying."

    The correct word is "Pteromatophobia," which is probably why most people say "fear of flying."

    The best way to overcome the fear of flying is to psych yourself up by thinking ahead to your destination, and thinking about how much you are going to enjoy being there.  Then go and FLY!  Confront the fear, and it will be diminished.  It can also be helpful to talk this over with a psychologist or psychotherapist.  If nothing else works, your doctor can probably prescribe something to help you feel more at ease.

    Then you will find that the more you do it, the less it will make you uncomfortable.  Eventually you will become a seasoned air traveler, and you will wonder why it once scared you.

    Enjoy your flight, and enjoy your vacation or business trip.

    P.S.: "Aviophage" means "bird eater."  It's a reference to having  a diet of mostly chicken and turkey, rather than red meat.


  2. by flying. its been proven that the best and fastest way to get rid of phobias is to face them. to make the best of your so called worst situation. you should try flying and take many precautions. you may find you were being silly by being scared at all.

Four years later I got a job as a first officer for a regional airline. Best thing I've ever done.
