I already have a dog and i have been going on about a hamster for about 2 years now. My mom just doesn't want to know. Every time i start talking about it she just switches off. I've tried everything. I've said that all i want for my birthday is a hamster i look after my dog really well and i researched all about hamsters but she still won't listen she says things like.

It will be a 2 minute wonder.

They smell

You won't look after it.

You'll forget to feed it.

I'm litterally breaking down. I can't sleep at night and i think a hamster would really help because it would reassure me to know there is something there.

PLEASE HELP I AM ABOUT TO GIVE UP!!!

  1. Tell her they are really good pets!

They don't make noise and its very easy to clean them.

    And there nothing like rats.

    They're actually cute haha.

They DON'T smell at all, as long as there cage is clean.

They're also very easy to look after.

Feed them everyday and they'll be happy =]

    No diseases as well.

I think they're the best pet you can have =D

  2. Do extra stuff around the house.

Make a certificate thing that promises you will take proper care of it. Tell your mom to frame it and keep it forever. Mke a report on hamsters with lots of research, who's going to take care of it when you're on vacation, the info on the breed you want, the cost of everything, and cocenrs and answers (like with the proper cleaning I will tend to with the cage, it will not smell).

Tell her you'll pay for it all.

  3. Don't give up!! save up enough money for a hamster and the food, water bottle, cage, food bowl, wheel, maybe a ball, toys and gnawing toys or chews!! Then show your mum the money and say to her you have worked really hard for this money and you are willing to take care of this hamster. tell her you will clean her out 1-2 times a week and will take great care of her!! If she still says no then say i will play with her give her exercise and you will put her some were out of her and the dogs way!!

if you do take have one don't stress it out when you first have it or it will get a illness called wet tail and 9 out of 10 hamsters die of it so let her settle in then the next day put you hand in the cage so she can sniff it ( make sure you wash your hands first she may smell food on it and try to bite it Else!!) on day 3 hand feed he and gently stroke her. day 4/5 pick her up but don't pick her up from above because they don't have great eye sight they Will think your hand is a bird or a animal coming to get them!! to cup your hands underneath her!!

and if you get a exercise ball don't put her in it until it has been 6 or 7 days.

I had a hamster yesterday but as a present of my mum and dad!!

I hope this helps and hope it works good luck with your hamster

p.s syrian are the easiest to handle and take care of!!

  4. tell her youll be responsible for everything they do and youll clean them and they dont smell much and youll play with them and make sure they dont escape

  5. Hamsters are GREAT pets!

I had some trouble convinceing my parents too.

Keep saving up money, and just keep doing reasearch.

What your mom said isnt always so true. Hamsters themselves dont smell bad. They groom themselves alot. If the cage is clean, they wont smell too bad. There isnt as much to taking care of a hamster than taking care of a dog. It isnt that hard. Change water, clean cage, change food, play with him. Its all pretty easy. The first few times, cleaning the cage will take about 1 hour, then itll get a little easier and better. If you get a ceramic bowl, like a one you get for a small cat water dish, so the hamster cant tip it over, fill it with food, then you wont really have to add the food everyday, just check the food everyday. Hamsters dont drink alot of water, so just check the water once a week.

When you first hold the hamster, it might bite you. so dont hold it for the first 1-2 weeks. let it get comfortable with u. Ive had my hamster for about a year now. He still poos in my hand if i hold him too long, or if he wants to go back into his cage (most hamsters get jittery) and i dont put him back sorta right away.

Get a teddy-bear hamster, they are the easist to take care of, and they are nice. They are great starters.

I know this because i own a hamster right now.

    hope this helps :)
