  1. You can START by BUYING A GUIDE BOOK and using THAT to plan your trip, rather than asking on Answers where 95 percent of the responders have never been outside the State they were born in.

  2. Hi,

Don't try to reach too many destinations within one week!

Decide on one starting point and plot your route from there with some points of your interrest.

I would suggest finding a lowfare flight to Rome.

Travel by a rented car trough Umbria, Tuscany and Liguria and from there enter the French riviera and find a return flight from Nice.

Take a couple of days in Rome and head for the city Spoleto in Umbria. This is a wonderful place!

Then head for Orvieto and Siena in Tuscany. Then head for the coast and make a stop in Cinque Terre in Liguria.

From there you drive along the coast to Nice / France.

Here is my tip for a place where you can find / explore several of the things you need to chack prices on for your trip:

I wish you a nice trip!

  3. Start with a good Europe guidebook to help in planning.  I would recommend Lonely Planet Western Europe or Rough Guides Europe.

If you only have one week, there is no way you are going to visit France, Germany, Belgium, and Italy, let alone adding other places.  You should plan on either 1-2 major cities or visiting a few smaller towns in one region, not more than that.  Visiting, say, Paris and Rome in 1 week would be rushed, let alone anything more than that.

There's no reason to spend 1200 pounds in one week - you can easily halve that.  You can find perfectly adequate hotels in any European city that are 50 pounds for a double room.

  4. Get yourself a map of Europe, and list some places you would like to visit and map it out, make a route so you don't overlap your cities and waste time backtracking.

From there, you make a list of things you would like to see and just do it that way.

Budget depends on how much you want to spend.  Do you want to stay in hostels or are you hotel people? Too bad you guys can't buy a Europass, that would have helped out a lot.  But take the train/plane and buses to your destinations. Start in Paris, head over to Belgium then onto Germany and work your way down from germany to Italy, and then back up from Italy to France and back to England, and you must made yourself a full circle w/o backtracking and you got to visit all the countries.  On your trip I would advise heading to the Netherlands since you have to pass by it from Belgium to Germany. That would be a great place to spend a few days at.  Hamburg is another, then Berlin, Munich, then to Italy, don't know what cities you plan on visiting, but just take the map out and look at it... after you wrote down the places you want to visit so you can make a route for your trip.

Switzerland is a great plcae as well, interlacken is incredible.

    Enjoy!

  5. A good starting point would be the 3country border between Belgium/Germany/Netherlands...you can either stay in Maastricht/Tongeren/Aachen of Liège and from there you can visit 3 countries.  The price for accommodation around Tongeren is relatively cheap. On Sundays there is a famous antiques market, the region is beautiful if you love cycling or hiking, there are good train/bus connections to the other cities and with 1200 pounds you will have the most luxurious holiday you can dream of. You are only one hour away from Brussels & Antwerp by train.  I would try to find a room for 1 week and take that as a base.

Another option is the area in the South of France on the border with Italy, but that will be more expensive. Again from there you can visit many French/Italian cities. You will have more chances on good weather but you will spend a lot more.

  6. Depending on your budget, there are many ways to go.

Since Europe is all connected, you can get transportation to and from country such as trains and even walking, as many would do. If you are in a tight budget after the flight fare, there are many hostals (hostels or whatever) that run around 10 USD a night with a complimentary breakfast.

Bring guide books, to know the places, and don't worry if you don't speak the language of a certain region as pretty much every european knows some English.

For the most part of going place to place, just rely on where you would like to go next as you can get there easily once on the mainland of Europe.

  7. Well id say if your gonna do a week - you would want to hit the "big" places.

Barcelona, Paris, Rome, Athens etc. however this depends on what you like  =)

My opinion would be to pick 2 destinations that way you will get a good 2 days to explore

    example

    1 leave home

    2 first destination

    3 first destination

    4 head to second destination

    5 second destination

    6 second destination

    7 arrive home
