I have a panasonic S27 a multi-region/region free DVD player. My TV is NTSC. I put my PAL DVD in and the picture jerks around and comes in black and white. Do I need to change how I have my DVD player hooked to my TV or do I have to get a converter box?

  1. In many PAL countries a lot of manufacturers supply TVs capable of accepting both PAL and NTSC signals by switching settings in menu on your remote. In the US the reverse is not usually the case.

If your actual TV is not PAL/ NTSC compatible then the following advice might help.

To play PAL DVD's you need a multi-system code free DVD player that has a built-in video converter. Then you can play any region DVD from anywhere in the World.

Alternatively, you can buy a multi-system code free DVD player and a video converter. The code free player will play any DVD disc. When you play a PAL DVD movie the output signal will also be PAL. You cannot view PAL signals on a NTSC TV unless you have a video converter. The video converter will convert that PAL signal to NTSC to enable you to watch it on a American NTSC TV set.

So check if your player actually has a converter. If not you need one.
