  2. You can't. The reason Sony is letting go of the backwards compatibility is because they are trying to sell more PS2s and because it makes the PS3

    cheaper to produce. I really hope they come out with a ps3 that can play ps2 games, but I guess they aren't. Maybe you should either buy a ps2, for $79.99 used, or just sell your 40GB and get a 60GB or an 80GB on ebay.  

  3. There isn't a way. The PS2 GPU and CPU was completely removed from the 40GB. Not even a software update can fix it. The PS2 GPU would be in the motherboard, not the hard drive.

  4. Sony is really s******g some of this PS3 stuff up. The 60gb was completely compatible with PS2 and PS1 games, the 40GB not compatible at all. The 80gb is partially compatible, but they are coming out with another 80gb soon that won't be compatible again.

    Bottom line, you can't. Sell it and buy an 80gb, or 60gb if you can find one.
