i've recently transfered from a long board to short board, but have found that the pop up is different. I'm too used to using my toes. How can i overcome that?

  1. i put my hands flat on the deck but right near the rail, so they don't drag in the water like if you hang off the rail.

if you push up off your feet and hands on a longboard, do the same thing with your knees and hands.  lift your feet up off the deck by flexing your knee right before the pop up and "bridge" your body up with knees and hands in one swift motion and bring your feet under you and put them on the deck.

you can also transition from prone to a drop knee (front foot is in the right spot, back foot is on the tail of the board but with your back leg's knee also on the deck and then twist up to standing, but on better waves you want to go right to the feet.

  2. when popping up try not to push down on the board practice a few pop ups on the beach before you go in the ocean try to make it one smooth motion and make sure than in between lying down and getting up your knees aren't involved do not use your knees as a balance when you pop up its much easier to just have it be 1 movement and not have to stop on you knees

  3. You can if you really just practice at it, and belive that you can do it.

  4. ok this is the same thing that happened to me. i started to surf with a longboard around 9'0 and then the next year i want a shortboard. the same thing happended to me. i couldnt get up right away, i would get up right on my kneees first. but when your in a position like this, you cant get fustrated surfing has a lot to do with confidence. you have to keep surfing on the same board for a couple of weeks and once you get the feel of the board and your starting to get the hang of it, all the things WILL fall in place for you. just dont get angry if you dont start out good. stay confident and dont give up. if you want a nice shortboard pick like a fish or a combat thats a little bit wider and thicker so you get up easier. but anyway good uck.

  5. okay when you transition from a longboard to a shortboard that's a very  weird situation

okay, since ur used to using your toes, and now ur feet dangle off the board you need to make sure that ur pop ups are 100% ready

this time you have to almost use all ur abs and upper body to pop up

and if you noticed that pushing the rails to get up doesn't work either, you need to position ur hands differently like on the center of ur board and not on the rails

    good luck!

    have fuunnn
