  1. RUN, RUN, RUN and Ball Handling Skills.  Practice Practice Practice and Watch a few Matches from the professionals.

  2. Just be sure you have a high pain tolerance above all.

It can be extremely dangerous. Not to scare you or anything. Great sport. Great workout. Great memories. I even have some pictures of me smiling and showing off some injuries.

If you're already athletic you should be set to go!

You'll have fun and I wish you the best!

  3. Sounds like you've got the aerobic fitness down, which is good.

Get used to running carrying a rugby ball as well as passing and kicking it.

Obviously the tackling and contact part take some getting used to.

Study up on the rules; not sure if you have designs on any particular position, but there's some good reading on the web on rugby for beginners.

BTW...don't be frightened if you're a bit sore after your first training session; we all were!

  4. If you've never played rugby before I would suggest learn the rules of the game. Then sprints and ball handling skills on the physical side. Thinking back to all my years playng rugby in school half of our training sessions were on ball skills and sprints. I wouldn't bother too much with strength training if you are young as devoloping the basic skills of the game are far more usefull than physical strength in low level rugby.

  5. rugby is a game of confidence. deffinatley join a team or school club and attend training sessions and ask your coach what u can do at home. This will boost your confidence with your new found skills.

rugby is a game that is enjoyed by all skill levels and all shapes and sizes, this is what makes it a good game, maby even the best in the world.

Just make sure that when you are going to get tackled or going to tackle you are confident that you will complete the task, the slightest hesitation will cause injury. If you shut your eyes and hope u bring him down you will also find he either hurts you and gets past you. Train train train!!
