  1. Sounds like you know it leaks... still take it to a radiator shop... the pressure test is more important after it's repaired. Word to the wise... you are opening a can of worms when you attempt to repair. HD tanks are paper thin and hard to weld (I TIGed one for a friend once... like trying to sew butterfly wings).Next, they have a liner which will be destroyed if heat is applied to the tank (weld or braze). If the hole is small enough ask the shop about elasto-meric seals which may plug it (do not use Cream). Otherwise I'd be looking into a new tank (aftermarket, not OEM).

  2. This a job best done by a radiator (yes, radiator) shop. Take off your tank and let them do it. They have the proper equipment to pressurize and leak test your tank without splitting it.

  3. Since you know it's bad, just go on ebay and buy a new one. There are so many there, you might just find the color you need, and then you can throw the old one out. By the time you strip it, weld it, grind it, fill it, prime it, and paint it, you will have WAY more time and energy into the project than by replacing.

    Just my $.02

  4. any parts-jobber will have a vacuum/pressure type hand pump for sale, not too expensive.

    i always smell like gas....lol

  5. drop a match in it...the light from the match will light up the hole, then you can fix it...

  6. Inspection stations have a device the screws on where the gas cap go's to pressure test it. 13-20 PSI. it's a simple hand pump.

Depending on what state you live in.
