  1. Foods high in protein:

Beans, like kidney and garbanzo beans. Green beans are good too. Combine your meals with whole grains.

Eggs, cheese, peanut butter, nuts etc..

  2. Usually hair starts to thin or fall out when your diet has a high sugar content.  I'd avoid eating excessive amounts of junk food.  If you want more protein eat nuts, legumes, and soy products.  Vitamin supplements won't be much help.

Just eat a healthy, balanced diet.  Thinning hair isn't necessarily related to vegetarianism; genetics and other factors play a role.  If you're healthy, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

  3. Sweetie, your hair will not fall out from becoming a vegetarian. It sounds like your friend was anorexic. Sadly some people cover up being anorexic by saything they are veg.

Non Meat Protein: beens, nuts, seeds, peanut butter, whole grains, eggs, dairy, tofu, and other fake meats like boca burgers and smart dogs, etc.

  4. Okay eat tofu, beans, etc.

Your hair isn't gonna fall out unless you don't get enough protein for like a year

  5. I keep seeing this type of question pop up and since I have been either a strict vegetarian or vegan for years and haven't had any problem with hair loss although I have lost considerable weight, I thought I would do some research.

The term for this condition seems to be called "Telogen effluvium" and seems to be a phased. According to this source it can be caused by a lot of things, not just diet, such as "This may occur spontaneously, may appear at the termination of pregnancy, may be precipitated by "crash dieting," high fever, stress from surgery or shock, or malnutrition, or may be provoked by hormonal contraceptives. Whatever the cause, telogen effluvium usually has a latent period of 2-4 months. The prognosis is generally good".

Reading on it appears that a number of things can help prevent or cure this somewhat common issue. Reduce stress and get proper nutrition, primarily, an increase in calories, protein, iron, and zinc.

Monitoring your nutrient levels at first would be a good idea (through a healthcare professional). Also, watching your nutrient intakes (check labels for higher percentages of such nutrients when shopping). Protein is in most foods so as long as you eat a diverse diet without much junk in it, you should get enough protein. Beans and nuts are great sources. As a vegetarian, dairy is a good source too (egg whites/albumin, for example). You might consider taking a multivitamin as well.

Edit: Here is the USDA National Nutrient Database pdf for protein by amount. Soybeans is one of the highest it seems.

  6. I drink protein drinks every day but I also exercise daily so I need the extra protein. Eat morningstar products (the best of the vegetarian products in my opinion), cook with tofu, snack on nuts, quinoa is a high protein grain, alot of pastas have a fair amount of protein too. Also beans are high protein low fat. When you look at vegetarian recipes they usually are pretty high in protein since there are so many alternatives  to meat that have protein. We are also decreasing our risk for diabetes, heart disease and many other diseases. go veggies!!!

  7. its not the lack of protein.. its more of how you combine simple proteins together to make a complete protein in your body so it absorbs all the nutrients properly.. Also you might be a little anemic (meaning need more iron rich foods) one good source of iron was red meat.. so you need to eat dark green leafy vegetables like spinach, brocolii, cale, mustard greens etc... and when you do.. have a whole grain with them like brown or wild rice.. wheat, oats, barley, beans, nuts, etc and combining these two will make a complete chain molecule and it will be absorbed better in your system...

  8. tofu

  9. If someone's hair is falling out, it generally means they have a very poor diet. Maybe your mom's friend's daughter just wasn't getting enough calories.

There are plenty of high-protein vegetarian foods. They include almonds, black beans, cashews, fake meats, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), kidney beans, lentils, peanut butter, pinto beans, soybeans, soymilk, sunflower seeds, and tofu.

To be healthy, you should include fruits, veggies, beans, nuts, and grains in your diet. Don't live on only low-calorie foods like salads, but also don't live on mostly junk food, either. I hope this helps!

  10. I am a vegetarian and I do not lack protein you just have to know what you need to eat try some soy burgers they are pretty good and have protein.
