How can i prevent people in my friends list from seeing when i am on-line on Face-book?

There is a tab on Face-book which allows you to see which of your friends are on-line. Is it possible to set your Face-book account so that your friends cannot see when you are on? I don't want to 'Block' them from viewing my account. I just don't want to be bombarded with 100's of Instant Messages when i log on. I would rather pick and choose who i speak with.

go to the settings tab down there and go offline. You wont be able to see them online though like you would with invisible status on aim

In the bottom of any facebook page you will see a gray bar. To the bottom right corner you will see a black figure with a green dot. Click that. In the popup that comes, click "go offline".
