  1. Is he finding snack in other places....Like birdies, or a neighbors house.  I have 1 outdoor cat and he is always bringing someone home for a bite to eat.  Control his feeding.  Only give him a certain amount at each sitting.  Get  a weight control formula and follow the directions on amounts.  Some cats  just seem large, but the average cat weighs between 10 - 12 pounds.  Good luck!

  2. You should feed more. 23lbs is good, but a male cat can be heavier than your cat.

  3. feed less! Duh!

    X

  4. Try giving him some canned food rather than dry.   The best thing to give him would be a grainless food.  Cats don't do well on grains.  They aren't meant to eat them.  Many food companies put them in the food because it is cheap, but cats can get diseases like diabetes and kidney problems from eating grains.  Some grainless brands are EVO and Wellness brand.

If you can't buy the brands mentioned above, try to at least feed canned food.  You will probably notice your kitty slimming down.

Be very careful about limiting food for an overweight cat.  If an overweight cat is put on a diet and loses weight suddenly, he can get something called Fatty Liver Disease and can die.

Since your kitty is an outdoor cat, I would guess that someone else might be feeding him - probably dry food.   Someone might think he's a stray or something.

  5. change his food to a less fatening type and sometimes a cats matbolism is so slow that they gain wieght and the thing bout housecats is that they do get fat since of lack of exercise even though its an outdoor cat it doesnt get the exercise of the hunt so its common for it to be overweight

  6. We started feeding our cat Purina weight control cat food and that helped some.  She's still chubby, but my other cat who eats the same thing is thin.  I think it's just the way she is.  Talk to your vet if you're really concerned.

  7. reduce food by 20%

exercise at least 3 times a day

    give vitamins

talk to your vet about dietary supplements

be consistent for at least a month to see if it helps

  8. How cant you?

    lol.

just make sure he stays indoors so you know what he eats.

see a vet about his weight.

and its pretty easy to give him healthy meals, just like children.

    dont feed him canned foods.

fresh, raw fish and tuna does it :)

  9. The vet can guide you when it comes to picking a dry food for your cat. MEASURE food portions rather than just dumping into the dish and limit treats to a minimum. Only ONE person in the household should feed the cat because everyone starts & as a group they end up loving the cat to death because the cat gets overfed.

  10. The digestive systems of dogs and cats are similar in many ways. 1) Their digestive systems are acidic, 2) they do not have long intestines and 3) they are made to digest one type of protein at a time, not multiple types like man-made foods. Their digestive systems are made to eat raw meats, which are full of B-vitamins that are very important to good health.

  11. Dont feed him as much

  12. He could be having a thyroid problem. He is middle age and this can happen in cats. Is he lazy? Does he get exercise? If he is outdoor he probably does. Don't give him people food. Only cat food. I would try to get his blood checked for thyroid and diabetes, then you can safely decide where to go with the weight.
