2 nights ago there was something on the TV about snakes & about how big some of them get.

i was planning on getting a royal python, and on the show they talked about reticulated pythons (sp?_)

now shes freaking out at the idea of me having a snake, shes hates them anyway but now she is terrified!

how can i show her that royal pythons are completely harmless?

  1. An easier way to get her to let you have a snake is by getting a small one. They aren't as intimidating...yet. She'll probobly have a problem with feeding a python. They will usually eat some pretty big mice, live or frozen its still big. Think about getting a corn snake as your first snake. They are great snakes for first timers. And they can start out pretty small and get to about 5-6 feet after a few years. Hope this helps :]

  2. If you can convince her you should find a full grown one that is nice and convince her to hold it. First-hand experience is one of the best ways to conquer fears.

  3. do you have any reptile shows nearby? specially ones that are made to entertain childrens parties and such. for educational purposes of course

there you can ask her to hold one and such and see for herself how tame they can become.

or you can take her to the petstore and ask to hold one of them.

Reticulated ones im pretty sure get bigger than the royals.

print out some care sheets and stuff. maybe some pics too. education is really the best bet.

who knows maybe she'll fall in love with it lol.

  4. If they weren't harmless, they wouldn't be sold as pets.

  5. tell her that your going to buy it any ways and if she doesnt like it she can leave.....

say "**** you mom" im buying it any ways cause im so gangsta..*****

  6. Tell her that they only get 3-5 feet, not over 20-25. Tell her that they are the smallest pythons. Tell her that a bite from a kitten is worse then then bite from a 5 foot ball python is. Also tell her that ball pythons don't bite unless your hands smell like rats or mice.

  7. Sadly some people don't have any concept of different species of snakes. A snake is a snake is a snake to many people. That sounds like your mother's problem. I'd suggest finding a reputable snake breeder in your area and taking a tour of their facilities with your mother. That will help to educate her and hopefully set her mind at ease.

Notice I didn't say "pet store". That's because you want someone who is actually knowledgeable about the snakes they are selling and snakes in general. You don't want your mom getting more bad information to add to the already bad information she has.

@Elizabeth K - You'd think, but that's not true. You can buy all manner of venomous snakes "as pets".
