How can i raise a few thousand dollars (CAD) in one year?

Ok. I'm saving up for this educational trip to Europe that is a year long. i have a year to raise 10,000 CAD for the whole trip. does anyone know of a way to raise up this much money in a year's time? i am already getting some help from my parents, but it is not too much. if it helps, i am an artist, and would gladly take comissions from people. if anyone knows of a way to help me earn the cash, please tell me, thanks!

The fastest way is probably going to be simply getting a job. It's going to be a more steady stream of income for your trip, whereas commisions will come and go.

The amount of time you put into creating something (ex: if it takes 10 hours to paint something) should be  greater than the value of the time you could have spent working at McDonald's or something, instead of painting. For example, if you would earn 8$/hour at Mcdonalds, then your ten hour painting needs to sell for at least 80$ (and you have to factor in covering your costs of materials).

So getting a job is number 1.

Your second choice is offering to do things around the neighbourhood: do you know anyone who needs their gardens taken care of, their lawns mowed, their weeds killed? What if you offered to organize garages? Wash cars? Walk dogs? Babysit? Their house painted? Their patios cleaned?

The trick is to find out what people need and see if you can help them out. That way you will be providing a service to them and they will be paying you for it. For example: do you know any elderly people who may want to pay you to carry groceries from the store for them? What services do people around you need that you can offer?

This is essentially what you would be doing by taking commissions as an artist: if a person has a need for artistic services they will pay you to rpoduce something that will fullfill them. But selling $10,000 worth of art in a year is...well...probably going to be difficult. So get a day job, and expect most of your income to come from that. You can also suplement this income by providing services to your community, as described above.
