Question:

How can i record tv to an external hard drive?

What I want to do is basically have a PVR, but that works with an external hard drive, since most of the market PVR's are 250GB max I was hoping I could find one that has a usb out to use as a secondary HDD, sadly I can't find one. So the next best thing is maybe a TV tuner, but then it would need to be plugged into a computer and that sort of defeats the purpose of timing something to record when you're not home.

Any ideas, products or work arounds anyone knows of? Or am I stuck with a 250GB DVDR/HDD unit?

  1. Hi David T,

I hacked my TiVo series 3 and added an external 500 gig hard drive. It works like a charm and really gives me the space I needed.

Other DVRs have been upgraded too.

Go to the forums and check how.

    Have fun,
