  1. I don't' think you can.  Most recycling places do not except containers that had food items in them.  Most people don't know this, but most of these recycle places don't actually recycle pizza boxes.  Something about sanitation issues.

  2. For sanitary and health reasons, I do not believe you can. However, I just learned, by reading the inside of my egg carton that I can now recycle the foam egg cartons if I want to send them to their address!

  3. I don't think you can - plus, meat packages are unsanitary.  You'd be better off throwing them away.  I never recycle.

  4. No matter how careful I am about recycling, reducing, and re-using, I still end up with many pieces of plastic going into my trash. I get all these little bits and pieces that are just not recyclable by any currently available system. Lately I came across a new thought: What if all the plastic that we brought into our homes had to stay in our homes forever? No more throwing it away, ever! What if every single piece became our responsibility for the rest of our lives? How would that impact us and how could we deal with all that plastic? Well on a global scale that is exactly what we are doing. We are creating plastics that we will have to deal with for thousands of years. In fact, “Except for the small amount that’s been incinerated-and it’s a very small amount-every bit of plastic ever made still exists.” In the past I have tossed these items in the trash and hoped for the best but now there is an option: keep it around as Personal Furniture!

My project for this year: I have sewn up some cloth bags to store the plastic in. I am packing it down as much as possible and when the bags are full, I plan to strap them together and make something like an ottoman(I hope) and hopefully not a SOFA. I borrowed this idea from Designer, Inna Alesina. Her idea is to use recycled plastic to make pillow forms. Then we would stuff the forms with trash, strap them together and make furniture.

Could you live with a year’s worth of trash? Our planet will be living with all of it, forever, so a year’s worth can’t be too bad, right?

  5. Check with your local community and see if they offer recycling with regular trash pickup. And dispose of the plastic with your other recyclables.

  6. Unfortunately, plastic can be hard to recycle, especially when there are different types of plastic or other materials in one package (like juice boxes are a combination of paper, metal, and plastic, making them impossible to recycle). Thin films of plastic like that covering the meat you're asking about or a sandwich bag cannot be recycled. Recycling plants have to separate things that cannot be recycled from those that can so if you are not sure whether something can be recycled, put it in the recycle anyways. :)

  7. I work for a non-profit agency that has a recycling business.  I can tell you that we do not accept anything that is made of styrofoam, and meat trays are usually a form of styrofoam.  As several persons have already stated, if they have been contaminated they cannot be recycled.  The person who stated "If in doubt, add to the recycling anyway" would not be very popular at our location.  We get so many things left in our bins that we cannot recycle.  We have to pay to discard those items just like everyone else does.  The less money we make on our recycling business, the less we have to spend on work programs for our clients.  Certain things, when added to the recycling bin, can contaminate everything in the bin.  We employ persons with disabilities.  Putting something contaminated in a recycling bin that they have to handle is just inconsiderate.  But we see it all the time.  If in doubt, ask your local recycler.  Please be responsible with your recycling.

  8. I don't think you can recycle plastic which comes in contact with meat (blood).  You can recycle plastic packaging with your plastic containers if it has a recycling symbol.

  9. I agree with the second answer.

  10. im pretty sure you cant, just be safe and ask your local dump place or your town hall, or even better if you have a recycling place near by

better safe then hurting the enviroment!!
