How can i remove files from DVR?

I dont have a tivo but a DVR from my satellite provider and was wondering how i can copies files from it to have use of recordings elsewhere. i have pluged in a flashdrive and a menu comes up saying that the service of copying files is not supported currently. is there a way around this?

  1. The problem with a video capture device is that it takes the same time to capture as watch, you have a digital signal being transmitted via analog to the recorder that converts it to digital... then possibly reencode... this can make the picture a blur REAL fast....

  2. A video capture device, it has the inputs that a TV has, you hook the DVR up to the video capture device and transfer the files to a computer.  That is probably the only way it will work.  Of course it would require disconnecting the DVR from the TV, and hooking up to the video capture device, but I do it all the time.
